In its native Japan the leaves are eaten raw or cooked in dishes such as tempura. It sends thread like stems that form a waterfall of tiny foliage, reminiscent of strawberries.

Light

Low light best described by North, North East or North West facing window. Avoid direct sunlight.

Watering

Keep moist but not soggy throughout summer. Reduce water during winter month, allow the soil to almost dry out.

Humidity and temperature

Mist the leaves once a week with lukewarm water, especially in temperatures above 18°C (64°F). Prefers to be grown in a cool room. In winter can tolerate temperatures down to 4°C (39°F).

Feeding and repotting

During active growth in spring and summer, feed the plant with liquid manure every 2 weeks. Repot in spring when the plant becomes over crowded.

White cottony clumps appear on the underside of the leaves.

This is an infestation caused by the mealy bug. Use a cotton swab dipped in the rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl) to remove the clumps and disinfect the area. If the problem is severe conquer it with Neem Oil.

Young shoots are curling and shrinking.

These young succulent shoots are a feast for aphids. Check under the leaves and remove them from the branches by pinching out the leaves. For large infestations use Neem Oil.
